Our Work

Parenting UK's membership service has four main themes:

Parenting UK will maintain, support and extend the professional network of those working in and concerned with parenting education and support

Parenting UK will host at events for members and the public, at venues across the country. These events will provide opportunities to hear about the latest policy and research developments, but most importantly, they will be stuctured to enable grassroots practitioners to exchange ideas and network.

Our website allows members to exchange information and participate in discussions electronically, with moderation to help ensure quality of information.

We will also convene a number of working groups or special interest groups. Recent working groups include feeding into the review of the National Occupational Standards for Work with Parents, and the consultation on the Labour Party's Green Paper. Other working groups are introduced throughout the year.

If you are a member and wish to participate in these working groups, please email: workinggroups@parentinguk.org, putting 'NOS WWP review' in the subject line.

Parenting UK will provide information and support services for the sector to enable parenting practitioners to deliver high quality services

Our role in keeping members up to date with developments in the field was the role most valued by members in our recent members' survey. Parenting UK will therefore continue to distribute our bimonthly News Bulletin, as well as our ebulletin every week. Our Library of Parenting Resources and our Parenting Education Materials Travelling Exhibition (PEM) have been updated and both catalogues are now available online. We are adding to our Programme Collection, with an aim to include material from all programmes which are included in the Commissioning Toolkit. And, we continue to respond to enquiries from our members.

Parenting UK will ensure the voice of parenting practitioners is represented to policy and decision makers

By ensuring two way communication with our membership via the website, email, bulletin and events, we will listen to our members and represent their views to policy makers by participating on committees, working groups, advisory boards and stakeholder meetings. We will gather views of members, utilising our website to enable our members to comment on policy papers and consultations, and respond to consultations on behalf of parenting practitioner. And we will feedback from member events and report findings of working groups, identifying trends and emerging needs and communicating them to decision makers.

Parenting UK will promote best practice in development and delivery across the sector

Parenting UK will produce and publish In Practice papers to ensure information on innovative approaches and best practice are widely shared across the sector. We will also ensure the views of parenting practitioners input into the review of the National Occupational Standards for Working with Parents. Parenting UK will continue to provide speakers and workshop leaders for conferences and events. Parenting UK will be led by its membership, and will focus our energies around those issues and topics which are of greatest interest to our members.

Parenting UK will work to provide the information, support and opportunities our members want and need to help them in their roles.

If members have ideas or suggestions for events or working groups that you would like Parenting UK to consider, please email info@parentinguk.org
