Vulnerable Parents
Action for Prisoners Families
Offers a range of training and awareness raising sessions to suit a wide variety of professionals and volunteers from all sectors - voluntary, private and public - on the issues affecting families with a relative in prison. This might include staff from SureStart/Children's Centres, Learning Mentors, Teaching Support Assistants, staff and volunteers from voluntary sector agencies working with prisoners' families, as well as staff from the Prison and Probation Services.
KNEX training sessions help both voluntary and prison staff plan, run and evaluate family visits using the KNEX construction sets. These visits give families the opportunity of an interactive visit, during which they play together - and learn together - in a fun way. Staff trained to help at these visits also have fun! Education/Learning and Skills staff may also benefit from developing their use of KNEX to deliver basic qualifications such as numeracy.

Research shows that alcohol and / or substance misuse can severely impact on parenting capacity, leaving children potentially exposed to risk of harm and impairment of their development. Working with parents who fall into this group is a challenging task for all professionals. This course offers participants the opportunity to develop a greater understanding of the issues involved and to build good practice skills when dealing with this client group.

Funding from the DCSF has enabled Hope UK to design and pilot a new course which addresses 'tier one' drug education and prevention issue; Drug Prevention for Family Workers. This practical training is for anyone working with children, parents or families and looks at drug awareness, the social effects of drug use, dependency and families and what family workers can do. Throughout the course delegates are introduced to prevention tools that they can use themselves as well as helpful intervention strategies. Hope UK also has Open College Network accredited educators around the UK able to deliver flexible, interactive presentations to groups of parents or adult carers to help them make a difference in their own families and those with whom they come in contact. For more information email Paul Coppeard or phone 020 7928 0848.
Course entries are provided by those individuals / organisations offering the training. Inclusion does not imply endorsement by Parenting UK
