Many thanks to all those who came along to our joint Parenting UK and One Plus One conference on 7 July to help those working to support family relationships. The event raised some important issues, from looking at how to better support young parents, to the effects of kinship care on family dynamics. You can view the full presentations of both speakers and workshop leaders below. Download the speaker presentations below: Penny Mansfield, One Plus One Jenny McLeish, Strategic Co-ordinator: National Teenage Pregnancy Midwifery Network Sam Smethers: Grandparents Plus Jane Robey – CEO, Family Mediation Services Download the workshop presentations below: Online support services – using new media to support families cost effectively Delivering Relationship support: with community champions Single parents – why relationship support still matters Family man – supporting relationships to prevent re-offending In 2008, there were 708,711 children born in England and Wales of which 25% were born to parents under the age of 24 and 6.3% to parents under the age of 20. Whilst lots of recent policy and media interest has focused on reducing teenage pregnancy (DCSF ten year teenage pregnancy strategy aims to reduce this by half by 2010), there is little that focuses on practical ways to best support young mothers and fathers. Speakers include:
Strong, stable families of all kinds: what makes relationships matter
Strong Relationships, Strong Families: Supporting Young Parents in their transition to parenthood
Grandparents: a crucial anchor in vulnerable times
Parenting together and apart: family mediation: cost effectiveThe Future of Services for Young Mums and Dads: Best Practice and Support
