Why become a member?

Parenting plays such an important part in so many aspects of life that it cannot be ignored. The Government and many experts agree, as can be seen by recent policies around supporting families and the trial to give parents of children under five free parenting classes. The riots of August 2011 also threw a public spotlight on parenting, leading the Prime Minister to state that “family and parenting is where we’ve got to start”.

Families today are under great pressure during this time of economic downturn. A survey carried out in 2011 by Family Lives showed that “90% of respondents believed parents would benefit from advice and information on effective ways of coping with their child’s behaviour”.

Your membership of £2,500 can help Parenting UK on many levels such as:

• Support the production of our expert led parent advice videos for the parents of children aged 0-19 on wellbeing, behaviour and learning; as well as specialist subjects such as role of the father, post natal depression, families of armed forces, bereavement and alcohol
• Fund the distribution of advice and support videos to more than 60,000 parents
• Fund the production and distribution of an issue of the quarterly newsletter to over 500 members
• Help to give all children the start in life they deserve

About Parenting UK

Founded in 1995, Parenting UK is a national organisation and the only membership body in the UK supporting people who work with parents.  We have around 500 members- both individuals and organisations, reaching around 1,200 individual parenting practitioners throughout the country who support around 861,700 families. Our members work in many different sectors, ranging from parent support advisors in schools, children’s centre managers and health visitors to private practitioners.

Parenting UK also provides a direct and free service to parents and carers through the provision of www.parentchannel.tv. This is an online service designed to support and encourage parents and carers of children aged 5-19, with a collection of up to date videos addressing day-to-day questions and concerns spanning wellbeing, behaviour and learning.
