What skills do practitioners need?
For programmes to be effective, practitioners need to have a particular set of skills, qualities and knowledge.

Examples of the skills, qualities and knowledge needed for evidence based practice are:

  • Working closely together with active participation and involvement
  • Empowering with parents
  • Complementary expertise
  • Agreeing aims and processes
  • Mutual trust and respect
  • Openness and honesty
  • Clear communication
  • Understanding flexibility
  • Negotiation of all aspects of helping, including the relationship
  • Self awareness
